Thank You to Solstice Acre's Supporters!

Dear Solstice Acre Friends,

We will not be at the Thursday Market this week, as Blake is performing and teaching in China. We will be back with fresh bread and pastries next Thursday at 3 pm, so we hope to see you then.

Though we are off this week, I thought we could take this opportunity to thank everyone who makes Solstice Acre possible. Many who meet us at the Farmer’s Market may not realize that Solstice Acre is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. We donate our net profits each year to direct service providers to support food security in Laramie. You can learn more about this in our annual report here.

Though we don’t usually pursue grants, in 2018-2019, we were focused on building the capacity of our bakery to sell more bread at the market so that we don’t sell out so quickly and can give more back. We received two grants that made a huge impact. First, the Walmart Foundation provided a local community grant that allowed us to buy a commercial style mixer. Then, this winter we received a grant from the Wyoming Community Foundation that allowed us to buy a mill to freshly ground wheat, rye, and also the ancient grains that we are baking in partnership with the UW’s Neolithic Grains Project. With these grants, we have been able to focus our limited funds on donations to direct service providers, while growing so that we can give more back to the community.

We also have expanded our governing board this year. In addition to original members Blake, me, and Josh Mietz, two local members joined to fill out our leadership: Kirsten Reynolds and Josh Kaffer. Both Kirsten and Josh have worked in the bakery this summer to help us get bread to market in addition to advising our nonprofit. We deeply appreciate them.

Finally, Solstice Acre would be unable to act in the community without our customers. Thank you!
